Background

I've always been rather intrigued with photographs. Photos could alway's take me places that I could never go; and still today they do. Images hold such a powerful force in society today. Without them, could you possibly imagine a newspaper or magazine?

I began to really grow serious about photography my Junior year in high school. I had recieved my first camera for Christmas the year before, but had not really put much energy into it until then. I attended Asbury College in Wilmore, KY  during my first year of college where I served as photo editor of the school paper. Starting in the fall semester of 2008 I  began attending Kent State University where I am part of their photojournalism program. During the summer and while on breaks, I work as a part-time photographer for The Alliance Review, the local newspaper from my hometown of Alliance, Ohio. I really enjoy my time there and have graciously been given the opportunity to practice and advance my photography skills through my work for them.

The photos below and in the blog archive have been taken for various photo classes, The Alliance Review, The Asbury Collegian, and for my own enjoyment. I hope that you like them!

Eighty five and still at it...

Here he is ladies and gentleman, one of my best friends, my grandfather. Today we celebrated his eighty fifth birthday. It was an awesome opportunity for our entire family to gather and show some love to our favorite old timer. Happy birthday Gradpa, I love you!

Emily's Words

I've been giving a lot of thought to this, and so I decided to test it out. I will be going to school for not only photography but for journalism (magazine journalism) as well. I want to make my writing a little better known, as I tend to keep it quietly hidden away in a notebook or in some file deep within my computer. I do a lot of poetry as well as other types of prose involving various experiences or thoughts. I've got an idea of what I want to post on here, though it is rather long. Maybe I'll make a shorter version or I'll post the entire thing. Either way I have some editing to do before I post it. Keep an eye out, for I will have it up shortly. Shortly means, whenever I can find a spare moment. I hope everyone is doing well.

Firefighter's Helmet

This time I have three different images, all similar in one way or another. I wanted to post all three and see which one you guys liked the best. In other words, I'm takeing a poll...so let me know your choice. I'm not sure which I like best, but I am rather partial to the last photo. It's plain, yet it seems to hold this ..power to me. I hope you enjoy them.

Mamma

Alas, I have dusted the cob webs off the old camera and returned with at least one good shot. My mom has always been a hard person to photograph. I always make her pose and do all sorts of crazy things for the sake of my "art", but I never seem to like them. Finally, I have a photograph I'm rather partial to. I love it when my mom smiles. Now you all can see why I like her smile so much. Here's to you mamma.
